Art and Culture in Landskrona
Landskrona offers a range of cultural experiences to titillate even the most jaded culture afficionado. In central Landskrona you’ll find two cultural destinations that you won’t want to miss: Landskrona Museum and Landskrona Art Gallery.
Get a Cultural Boost at Landskrona Museum
Within the historic walls of Adolf Fredrik’s barracks, right in the city centre, you’ll find Landskrona Museum. Here you can visit several permanent and temporary exhibitions that are suitable for both children and adults.
Learn About the History of Advertising
Regardless of what one thinks about the art of advertising, it cannot be denied that it’s played a central role in our culture. Landskrona Museum is now home to Sweden’s archive for advertising and graphic design, Room for Advertising. The collection is home to over 100,000 items, which form the basis for the exhibition “Reklam!” (“Advertising!”).
Through the lens of historic advertising campaigns, the exhibition gives you the opportunity to explore society from the 1900s to today. With a specially designed app you can get even more out of the exhibition, with additional material from the collection, audio guides, and audio description tracks.
Stand Up Against Violence with Reuterswärd
Right outside the museum you can see Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd’s world-famous piece Non-Violence, a sculpture of a revolver with a knotted barrel. Reuterswärd spent his last years in Landskrona, and after his death, the museum received a large part of his personal collection.
In the exhibition, you can see many artworks by Reuterswärd, all on the theme of non-violence. The collection includes many variations of the famous revolver, but also other intriguing motifs. Some of these works had never been shown to the public before they became part of the exhibition here in Landskrona.
Step Back in Human History
One of Landskrona Museum’s crown jewels is the exhibition “Människor som vi” (“People Like Us”). With the help of an advanced lighting and audio program, it takes you 8,000 years back in time, into the world of the Stone Age.
Accompanied by poems that give voice to the Stone Age people, the exhibition provides an insight into what life here could have been like several thousand years ago. There are several unique finds in the exhibition that are sure to charm both young and old.
Browse through ancient tools and skeletons, let your imagination take flight, and take a moment to ponder whether the Stone Age people were really that different from us – or if they were people just like you and me.
Everything Good Ends with Coffee
When you want to round off your visit to the museum, you can head down to the museum café Nell Wallden. Here you can enjoy coffee, cakes, and sandwiches. The café follows the museum’s opening hours and is run by a non-profit association.
And don’t forget to take a stroll through the museum’s well-stocked shop before you leave! Here you’ll find, among other things, designer utility items in both new and more traditional materials, posters, and local handicrafts.
Visit Landskrona Art Gallery
You can find even more art and culture just a short walk from Landskrona Museum. Landskrona Art Gallery is one of Skåne’s most impressive art venues, situated in the picturesque Slottsparken in Landskrona. The building, designed by Sten Samuelson and Fritz Jaenecke and inaugurated in 1963, is renowned for its modern architecture featuring large window walls and a sculptural glass wall by Erik Höglund.
The gallery offers a diverse mix of exhibitions ranging from contemporary art to historical works. In addition to the exhibition hall, there’s also a Japanese garden, created by landscape architect Ulla Molin, which provides a unique and tranquil atmosphere.
Visitors can also enjoy the gallery’s café, Thimans Wine Bar, which offers a perfect spot for relaxation after exploring the gallery’s current exhibition. Outside the gallery, Kaptensgården Sculpture Park features pieces by 20 artists, making it an ideal place for a stroll and a bit of reflection.
Landskrona Art Gallery is a cultural gem that should not be missed by art lovers visiting Skåne. With its rich history, beautiful surroundings, and inspiring exhibitions, it offers an experience that enriches both mind and soul.
