A Runner’s Paradise
Maybe you’ve just discovered the joy of jogging, started training for a race, or love the challenge of trail running. Maybe you just want to get moving? The beauty of running is that you can do it just as easily at home as when you’re away on holiday. All you really need is a good pair of shoes.
Combining running with exploring new places is also a clever little trick that often gets you running further than planned – just to see what’s around the next bend.
Landskrona is a veritable paradise for runners, with long, flat stretches of well-lit exercise trails, outdoor gyms to vary your workouts, and wonderful scenery along hilly coastal trails.
Kilometres of coastline to enjoy
The best “pleasure runs” – those longer, almost meditative distance sessions – can be found along the coastline. One of the perks is that you can join the route almost anywhere; Landskrona’s coast is accessible from Nyhamn in the town centre all the way up to the municipal border with Helsingborg in the north.
Want to mix it up on your way back? Head uphill at Ålabodarna and turn south in Glumslöv. From there, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Landskrona, the Öresund strait, Copenhagen and the Öresund Bridge as you descend Glumslövsbacken.
The best hill runs are up north
Most of Landskrona is as flat as a pancake – ideal for beginners and those working on a new personal record. But what if you’re craving a solid hill session? Head north! The areas around Sandbergen, Sundvik and Ålabodarna offer hills and slopes of all kinds – long and short, steep and gentle, on trail and on tarmac – and most come with amazing views to keep you going longer than you thought possible.
If you don’t mind a bit of country road running, you’ll also find long, steady inclines leading out towards Härslöv, Vadensjö and Rönneberga.
Inside the town itself, the highest point is on Västra Fäladen – a solid sledging hill reaching about 21 metres above sea level, nestled between Löparen and Skogsmusgården.
Three spots for interval training
Intervals are great because you can do them almost anywhere – but having a quiet place helps, especially when you’re sprinting back and forth. Here are a few tips:
- Short intervals in the sand at Lill-Olas beach – it’s usually calmest just north of the small jetty.
- Sprint along the gravel paths through the allotments and enjoy the beautiful gardens as you go.
- Prefer laps? The route around the Citadel is ideal.
And hey – don’t forget Saxtorpsskogen in the south, perfect if you enjoy soft forest trails, the scent of pine in your nose and birdsong in your ears.
