The Beautiful Island of Ven

Nestled in the water between Sweden and Denmark lies the island of Ven. Picturesque and full of Scandinavian coastal charm, this small island is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

From breathtaking views to delectable food, Ven is an enticing place to visit. The ferry from Landskrona operates year-round and takes only 30 minutes, and the experiences the island offers shift with the seasons. With its 11,7 km circumference, it’s ideal to explore on foot or by bike.

Hiking and biking

Leave your car behind on the mainland and explore Ven on foot or by bike for an unbeatable outdoor experience.

The Skåneleden hiking trail extends around the island, and there are plenty of winding bike paths that offer fantastic viewpoints. The magnificent, steep Backafallen slopes around the island plunge straight down into the sea, and it is a wonderful feeling to cycle or walk right above them. The slopes have been given protective status as a nature reserve that encircles the entire island.

Visit the Tycho Brahe Museum

In the centre of Ven, the eccentric nobleman and astronomer Tycho Brahe built an impressive research centre with a castle and an underground observatory at the end of the 16th century.

Tycho is today seen as one of the most important people in the history of science and the Tycho Brahe museum is situated right where he studied the starry sky more than 400 years ago. It was here Tycho questioned the thousand-year-old laws that were said to govern the universe. At the museum, you can learn more about Tycho and his astronomical contributions.

Food and Drinks

Make sure you pack a decent appetite when visiting Ven. Especially in summer, the island offers a variety of lovely culinary experiences.

House of Hven is Ven’s oldest guesthouse, upgraded to offer modern food and accommodation for the island’s visitors. They’re open year-round and specialize in serving dishes made with local ingredients that capture the taste of Ven. Sit down and enjoy game and vegetables from the island or fish and seafood from the surrounding waters, all in a picturesque, historic setting.

Spirit of Hven Backafallsbyn is a family-owned distillery that offers guided tours, tastings, a restaurant and one of Sweden’s foremost whisky bars. It’s an ideal stop for whisky lovers, or anyone wanting to sample some delicious food made from local ingredients.

Stay the Night

While Ven’s small size makes it excellent for a daytrip, it’s well-worth staying overnight to make the most of what the island has to offer. Before the day’s visitors step ashore, the island is a haven of tranquillity.

Ven offers accommodation of varying types and standards. As the accommodation is limited, we recommend that you book your overnight stay before arrival. Please bear in mind that Ven is a nature reserve and camping is only permitted at the official campsite.
